Integrated RMNCAH for women, youth and families
USAID Afya Yangu-RMNCAH is a five-year project (2022–2027) implemented across 11 regions in the United Republic of Tanzania. It aims to increase demand for, and use of, quality integrated Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health services — with a particular focus on women and youth.
The programme operates through extensive collaboration with the Tanzania Ministry of Health (MoH) and the President's Office Regional Authorities and Local Government (PORALG), ensuring comprehensive support at every level of healthcare delivery.
ASUTA implements the programme in two districts — Mlele and Tanganyika — in Katavi region, in partnership with JHPIEGO, delivering integrated health services directly to communities.
Project objectives
Improved access to quality services
Enhanced access to quality, client-centered RMNCAH services across target regions.
Positive health behaviors
Improved ability of individuals to practice positive health-seeking and self-care behaviors.
Enhanced enabling environment
Strengthened systems and policies that support quality RMNCAH service provision.

Implementation approach
ASUTA delivers the programme in partnership with Regional and Council Health Management Teams (RCHMTs & DCHMTs), Ward and Village Executive Officers (WEOs & VEOs), hamlet leaders and community health workers. All stakeholders are engaged from the outset to promote the benefits of the programme to community members.
Twelve CHWs/CHVs lead community-level Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) work — including household visits and small-group discussion dialogues — ensuring comprehensive coverage and sustainable impact.
From household conversations to facility referrals, Afya Yangu places mothers, children and adolescents at the centre of Tanzania's health system.
