Programme story

Bahari Yetu is ASUTA's new flagship marine programme. It succeeds Heshimu Bahari, which was delivered in three components: BES Northern (1st)BES Southern (2nd)Community Based Activities (3rd).

Programme Overview

A new chapter for Tanzania's coast

Bahari Yetu — Swahili for “Our Ocean” — is ASUTA's newest flagship marine initiative. Building on lessons from Heshimu Bahari, the programme places coastal communities at the centre of how Tanzania's marine resources are protected, governed and used.

The programme weaves together community-led conservation, climate resilience, gender equity and sustainable blue livelihoods into a single, locally-owned framework.
